Please join us for the 56th Annual Sportsmen's Banquet honoring Bill Walton, scheduled for Tuesday, October 4thon-field at Petco Park.

The Sportsmen's Banquet stands as a lasting legacy and celebration of San Diego's dynamic sports scene, having been feted for over five decades by San Diego's business, civic, and sports industry leaders. Like last year, the Hall of Champions and San Diego Sports Alliance are excited to again join forces to host the 56th Annual Sportsmen’s Banquet.

Bill Walton will be honored as Sportsman of the Year. It’s impossible to quantify what Bill is and means to San Diego. After graduating from Helix High School, he went on to star at UCLA, where he won NCAA National Championships under John Wooden in 1972 & 1973. In 1974, he was drafted 1st overall by the Portland Trail Blazers, winning NBA championships with the Blazers in 1977 and with the Celtics in 1986. Bill earned the NBA’s Most Valuable Player Award in 1978 and later was named one of the 50 Greatest Players in NBA history. Following his impressive basketball career, Bill went in to television broadcasting and won an Emmy in 2001, was named one of the top 50 sports broadcasters of all time by the American Sportscasters Association in 2009, and he continues to do commentary quite colorfully for ESPN & the Pac-12 Network. As a native San Diegan, Bill is fully engaged in supporting his beloved San Diego community. He serves as the Executive Chairman of San Diego Sports Innovators (SDSI), a non-profit organization that focuses on connecting, educating and mentoring people to develop San Diego as the home of the sport and active lifestyle industry, and Bill and his wife Lori support countless other local non-profit organizations. Bill also recently published Bill Walton, Back from the Dead, a riveting and entertaining autobiography that made the New York Times’ bestseller’s list. Bill is larger than life – literally and figuratively. He loves his bike, he loves his music, he loves San Diego, and we love him back.

Bill has chosen the Lucky Duck Foundation as the philanthropic beneficiary of the event. The Lucky Duck Foundation supports three charities: Fr. Joe’s Villages, Challenged Athletes Foundation, and the Helen Woodward Animal Center. The Lucky Duck Foundation has generously agreed to match dollar-for-dollar every donation made in Bill’s honor, which will effectively double your gift. Please note you are also invited to the Lucky Duck Foundation’s 8th Annual Swing & Soirée the day before the Sportsmen’s Banquet on October 3 at the Santaluz Club with Bill Walton, PGA Tour Pro Peter Jacobsen, and SportsCenter’s Neil Everett. We hope you can join the Boards of Directors of the Hall of Champions and Sports Alliance at the 56th Sportsmen’s Banquet and we encourage you to support the Lucky Duck Foundation in honor of our friend Bill Walton.
