HALL OF CHAMPIONS HOSTS AN AUCTION
The Hall of Champions museum was closed to the public on June 15 in order to complete the museum deaccession process and move the Breitbard Hall of Fame to Petco Park. The museum was closed because it was not sustainable. However, its closure will enable us to redirect funds to continue (and expand) all of the other Hall of Champions programs, including monthly and annual awards, community outreach initiatives, and the Breitbard Hall of Fame. The grand opening date at Petco Park is TBD, although likely to occur in September or October of 2017. Read more...

Steven Peace to be honored at the 69th Annual Salute to the Champions - Steve is a San Diego, CA native and retired Navy officer. On October 16, 2006, while alone at home, Steve experienced a sudden paralyzing stroke. The stroke caused Steve to immediately hit the floor where he laid for 14 hours before help arrived. JACOB CHARGES THROUGH CANCER WITH THE SAN DIEGO CHARGERS
Jacob was a normal, if not slightly chubby baby, so his parents had no cause for concern during his routine 4-month checkup. It wasn’t until the nurse practitioner conducted a physical abdomen exam that anyone noticed something was wrong. But there it was, a golf-ball sized lump almost protruding out of Jacob’s abdomen. A cat scan confirmed what doctors’ feared; Jacob was diagnosed with a neuroblastoma tumor, a type of cancer that forms in and around nerve cells. Read more...

San Diego Mesa College (SDMC) chose to have their eight courts repaired and resurfaced in two toned dark and light blue colors. ‘SIGNING PARTY’ SET NOV. 12 AT THE SAN DIEGO HALL OF CHAMPIONS
Doors open at 7 a.m. for those signing National Letters of Intent. In what has become an annual tradition, the San Diego Hall of Champions will open its doors early on Wednesday, Nov. 12, for the “Signing Party” for those student-athletes affixing their signatures to college scholarship offers. The program itself will begin at 8 a.m. but the doors will be open an hour earlier as more than 300 student-athletes, their parents, coaches and friend share their excitement of announcing which school they will attend on scholarship next fall. DAVIS CUP LEGACY PROJECT
Ground Breaking Ceremony for the Davis Cup Legacy Project at Colina Del Sol Community Park Tennis - The Greater San Diego City Tennis Council (GSDCTC) proudly announces the upcoming renovation of the six tennis court complex at Colina Del Sol Community Park. The courts will be repaired and then resurfaced in two toned US Open blue and green colors. The courts will be lined for USTA “10 and under tennis” to enhance the enjoyment and development for younger children. The renovation is expected to be completed by the end of August. Read more...

“SPIRIT OF '45 DAY” National Day of Remembrance WWII Veterans- In the early Summer of 2010 the US Senate and Congress also unanimously approved “Spirit of '45 Day” a new National Day of Remembrance to recall the victory celebrations at the end of WWII. “Spirit of '45 Day” coincides with the anniversary of Victory over Japan or VJ Day, however, this year and in future years this celebration will occur on the second Sunday every August, this year August 10th, 2014. 2014 PERFECT GAME ALL-AMERICAN CLASSIC
PGAAC Returns to San Diego for 12th Annual Event - Two local standouts will participate in the game this year include, Kyle Dean an outfielder from Rancho Bernardo High and Drew Finley a pitcher also from Rancho Bernardo High. 2014 marks the fifth consecutive year that more than one San Diegan has been named to the team. Hoover High’s Damonte Holiday and Ramona’s Kailey Hill were selected the San Diego Section Athletes of the Year at the 8th Annual Prep Athletes Award Gala before close to 300 at the San Diego Hall of Champions. Multi-sport athletes both, Holiday edged Cathedral Catholic’s Brady Aiken and Eastlake’s Wes Braddock while Hill finished ahead of La Costa Canyon’s Emma Abrahamson and Mt. Miguel’s Talisha Dozier. The San Diego Sports Consulting Project (SDSCP) was begun in 2011 and is designed to give students an opportunity to leverage their existing business skills, as well as develop new ones, in an exciting and challenging sports business environment. Historically the San Diego Padres have presented the group of 35 students with a business project focused on ticket sales. LEGENDARY TONY GWYNN
Tony Gwynn has died at the age of 54. In the sense of both baseball and San Diego, though, his legacy is that of an immortal. It’s a word that only the game of baseball assigns to its certifiable legends, the ex-players to whom the designation “Hall of Famer” is still an understatement. Anthony Keith Gwynn, HOF ’07, beloved in San Diego and known from coast to coast as “Mr. Padre,” was decidedly one of them when he passed away after years-long combat with cancer. Read more...

On Saturday, May 31st Boston Marathon Winner, Meb Keflezighi showed his support of the "Flat Stanley Project" at the Hall of Champions 2014 Rock n' Roll Shake Out Run! The Flat Stanley Project began in 1994 by Dale Hubert in Ontario, Canada. Hubert had the brilliant idea of having children creat their own Flat Stanley paper cutouts and mailing them to friends and family around the globe, in order to foster authentic literacy activities for kids and get them excited to write about Stanley's adventures.
