TE’O, DUDLEY AND JEFFERSON CITED AS DECEMBER STARS
Pro, amateur and high school athletes honored by the San Diego Hall of Champions

SAN DIEGO—(Jan. 5, 2015)—Football standouts Manti Te’o and Tony Jefferson, along with former Horizon High basketball star Jared Dudley, were honored as Stars of the Month for December by the San Diego Hall of Champions.

Te’o, in his second season as a linebacker with the San Diego Chargers, came on strong at the end of the season to collect 13 tackles against Kansas City—9 of them solo—to finish with 33 for the month.

Jefferson, the ex-Eastlake High star who plays safety for the Arizona Cardinals, collected 16 tackles in three games to give him 75 for the season.  Dudley came off the bench for the Atlanta Hawks and had the game of his life, making all 10 shots he took, including four from beyond the arc, to finish with 24 points.

On the college front, ex-Imperial High running back Royce Freeman, a freshman at the University of Oregon, led six amateur Stars of the Month.

Freeman gained 551 yards to help lift the Ducks to the Pac-12 title and into the National Championship game. On the season he accumulated 1,343 yards and 19 TDs.

He was joined by record-setting Johnny Dee and fellow basketball player Malina Hood from USD, water polo standout Joe Dietrich and basketball player Farrah Shokoor from UCSD and Heather Thompson of Cal State San Marcos basketball..

On the high school front, Grace Forren, who led Francis Parker to the state girls volleyball title, topped a half-dozen honorees.  Forren had 18 kills in the title win over Ross’ Branson High.

El Capitan football standout D.J. Smith, Mt. Carmel basketball player Ali Engelhardt, Cathedral Catholic soccer player Kelsey Irwin, Bishop’s sophomore basketball player Destiny Littleton and T.J. Leaf of Foothills Christian were also selected.
