SAN DIEGO—(Oct. 3, 2017)—Veteran golfer Phil Mickelson and relative newcomer Xander Schauffele topped the list of 15 pro, amateur and high school athletes honored as Stars of the Month for September by the San Diego Hall of Champions.

Mickelson won his head-to-head match 2 and 1 and did not lose a round in the ‘foursome’ competition as he and Kevin Kisner teamed up to help the United States down the International all-star team 19-11 in the President’s Cup.

Schauffele wrapped up a stunning season by being selected a Star of the Month for the third time in 2017, capturing the Tour Championship competition by a stroke. He shot 12-under for the tournament.

Joining the two golfers on the pro front were the San Diego Padres’ outstanding relief pitcher Brad Hand and ex-Helix High quarterback Alex Smith of the Kansas City Chiefs.

Hand saved seven of eight games while compiling a 2.38 ERA while Smith completed 77.4 percent of his passes (65-of-84) for 774 yards in leading the Chiefs to a 3-0 start.
