With all 350 seats taken and at least 100 other individuals watching from the balcony and sides at the San Diego Hall of Champions, 162 high school seniors Wednesday announced where they will be attending college next fall to continue their athletic and academic careers.
Those individuals made their choices public and then solidified them by signing National Letters of Intent, where applicable. Ivy League, service academies and some NCAA Division II, III and NAIA schools sign paperwork but not official NLI.
Football, boys and girls soccer and boys water polo were in the spotlight with girls soccer, as usual, leading the way with 62 individuals going to schools as close as San Diego State, USD, UCSD and Point Loma Nazarene University and as far away as Duke, Michigan and Dartmouth.
Little Dixie State in St. George, Utah, came in and walked away with the most football signees—five—while San Diego State and Washington State each had four of the total 54 individuals who signed.
Most of the individuals had announced their destination months ago, but Kearny High football player Josiah Sa’o got a loud ovation when he literally made up his mind on stage to attend Vanderbilt.
