SAN DIEGO—(Sept. 2, 2015)—Pitchers  were at the top of the list as the San Diego Padres’ Ian Kennedy and former San Diego State standout Stephen Strasburg  earned August Star of the Month honors as chosen by the San Diego Hall of Champions.

Kennedy compiled a glittering 2.30 ERA in five starts, striking out 36 batters while allowing just eight earned runs in 31.1 innings.

Strasburg returned from injury and didn’t miss a beat, weaving a 3-1 record with a 2.70 ERA in 30 innings, striking out 35 without issuing a walk.

Keeping with the theme of outstanding pro pitchers, former UCSD hurler Guido Knudson used 10 saves with the Toledo Mud Hens as a springboard to join the parent Detroit Tigers.

Rounding out the professional stars, former Mater Dei Catholic standout Paul Arriola picked a perfect time to score his first goal in the Liga MX Apetura, helping the Xolos of Tijuana down Cruz Azul, 3-1.

Sweetwater Valley Little League all-star Walker Lannom topped the list of six amateur athletes collecting monthly honors.  Lannom led Sweetwater Valley to the U.S. semifinals, finishing with a 15-game hitting streak while batting .566 and clubbing 14 home runs in the post-season.

Joining him was La Costa Canyon baseball player Mickey Moniak who starred in the outfield for the West All-Stars in the annual Perfect Game All-American Classic at Petco Park, collecting a hit, stealing a pair of bases and playing flawlessly on defense.

San Diego State soccer defender Stacie Moran and UCSD swimmer Reilly Boyt got off to fast starts while high school athletes playing over the summer—Torrey Pines golfer Sung Eun Park and Point Loma tennis player Ivan Thamma—chalked up big wins.
