ROSS, HARANG HONORED AS STARS OF MONTH
Public Links Champion Byron Meth among 7 recognized by the San Diego Hall of Champions
SAN DIEGO—(August 1, 2014)—San Diego Padres pitcher Tyson Ross and former Patrick Henry High and SDSU standout Aaron Harang top the list of professional and amateur Stars of the Month for July as selected by the San Diego Hall of Champions.
Ross had to be almost perfect, making the most of his run support to post a 4-2record which included an earned run average of 1.10, just 0.01 behind the major league leader for the month. The right-hander struck out 48 batters, including 11 against the Chicago Cubs, while walking only 10.
Harang helped the Atlanta Braves contend in the National League East as he went 2-0 in five games, forging a 2.65 ERA that included fanning 15 batters.
On the amateur front, another Patrick Henry High grad Byron Meth captured the U.S. Public Links title when he parred the first hole of a playoff after firing an 8-under 134 over 36 holes in Kansas.
Joining him were volleyball standout Kendra Dahlke, senior golfer Pat Duncan and the MVPs of the Alex Spanos North-South All-Star football game, Hunter Correll (Serra) of the South and Sebastian Tengen (San Pasqual) of the North.
