CENTURY CLUB TO BE FETED AT THE SALUTE TO THE CHAMPIONS
Bruce Binkowski, Steven Peace, the late Duane J. Roth will be honored

SAN DIEGO—(Jan. 16, 2015)—Each time you watch one of the dramatic finishes at the Farmers Insurance Open golf tournament, chalk it up to another successful event hosted by The Century Club.

That organization will be honored at the 69th Salute to the Champions awards banquet set for Monday night, Feb. 23, at the Town and & Country Resort and Convention Center. Additionally, the late Duane J. Roth will be honored as the Community Champion, Steven Peace will be in the spotlight as the Challenged Athlete of the Year and Bruce Binkowski will accept the Lifetime Achievement Award.

That same evening, former San Diego Chargers running back LaDainian Tomlinson, baseball great Chris Chambliss and baseball/basketball standout Tony Clark will be inducted into the Breitbard Hall of Fame.

The Century Club has been involved in the PGA TOUR golf tournament since 1961 and was one of the first organizations to realize the importance of name recognition when it got Andy Williams to be the face of the event in 1967.  Although the golf tournament has had numerous names, it is considered one of the coveted designations on the annual pro tour.

Peace, who suffered a stroke at just 32 years of age, has battled back to become one of the world’s top Paralympic bikers, where he finished fifth in the London Games in the 30-mile road race and seventh in the 9-mile time trial for T-2 level bikers.

Binkowski is one of the most recognized individuals in San Diego. It’s his voice that has boomed down at spectators attending Padres, Chargers, Gulls, Rockets, SDSU and USD events. Additionally, he was the first Holiday Bowl employee and recently has been Executive Director of the Poinsettia and Holiday Bowls.

Roth was participating in a bicycle ride organized by the Challenged Athletes Foundation when he was involved in an accident that took his life in 2013.  Roth was best known for his work with Connect, an organization that promotes technology entrepreneurship in San Diego.
