SAN DIEGO—(Dec. 2, 2015)—NASCAR driver Jimmie Johnson and durable San Diego Chargers lineman Joe Barksdale topped the list of athletes selected as Stars of the Month for November by the San Diego Hall of Champions.
Johnson apparently owns the NASCAR race course in Fort Worth, Texas, as No. 48 captured the race for the fourth straight time.
Barksdale helped anchor the Chargers’ injury-riddled offensive line, playing every game, often having to change positions on the run.
Joining the two were fellow professionals Brandon Montour, who is making his rookie season with the San Diego Gulls a memorable one, and ex-San Diego State running back Ronnie Hillman, who helped lead the Denver Broncos to the top of the AFC West standings.
San Diego State quarterback Maxwell Smith, who led the Aztecs to a perfect record, topped the list of five amateur standouts. Smith completed 22 of 39 passes with four going for touchdowns without an interception.
He was joined by USD hoop standout Malina Hood, the UCSD duo of Chase Cockerill (water polo) and Mary Reilly (women’s soccer), and Point Loma Nazarene volleyball star Heather Leavitt.
High school Stars of the Month were Helix’s Nate Stinson (football), Canyon Crest’s Jolie Rasmussen (volleyball), La Costa Canyon’s Josh Litwiller (cross country), Francis Parker’s Brooke Seay (golf), Cathedral Catholic’s Dennis Blyashov (water polo) and San Dieguito’s Jennifer Kerr (tennis).
