Sports at Lunch, John Lynch and the NFL

John Lynch, a Super Bowl champion and nine-time NFL Pro Bowl safety from Torrey Pines High, spoke at Sports at Lunch in his hometown on the eve of NFL training camps opening. As a special feature to the event, Lynch welcomed San Diego State quarterback Kevin O'Connell, a third-round draft pick by the New England Patriots, to the NFL.

Fred Dean named
to Chargers' Hall of Fame


The Chargers announced Fred Dean as their 2008 Hall of Fame inductee at Sports at Lunch on July 15 at the Hall of Champions in Balboa Park. Hank Bauer served as moderator as several teammates from Dean's years with the Chargers joined him.



USGA's U.S. Open exhibit

The USGA is sponsoring a U.S. Open exhibit at the Hall of Champions in Balboa Park that is open until November. The exhibit recognized the U.S. Open that was played in June at Torrey Pines Golf Course. more...

August 13, "McGuire" -- Dick Enberg's one-man play: Dick Enberg, the Emmy Award-winning broadcaster and long-time friend of the Hall of Champions, will speak at Sports at Lunch on his one-man play, "McGuire," on Wednesday, Aug. 13 at the Hall of Champions in Balboa Park. Enberg wrote the play about his friend and broadcast partner, Al McGuire, who died of leukemia in 2001. Sports at Lunch will precede return performances of "McGuire" on Aug. 18 and 19 at the North Coast Repertory Theater. For reservations, call the HOC events department at 619-699-2309.


August 21, Chuck Long and San Diego State football: San Diego State football coach Chuck Long will take a break from fall camp to update Aztecs fans on the 2008 season at Sports at Lunch on Thursday, August 21 at the Hall of Champions in Balboa Park.
